where the dream begins
You and a friend enter a huge echoing consultation hall in South Korea, seated in moving roller-coaster-like chairs while doctors appear as if on a runway.
I dreamed that I went to South Korea with a friend. The route was very strange. First we went into an enormous hall with echoes, more than twenty meters high and packed with people. There was a giant screen. Each time a doctor came onstage, the doctor waited for the person who had booked an in-person consultation that day, and then they left together. Every doctor appeared as if walking in a fashion show. We spectators sat in roller-coaster-like seats, and the cars could move. As you got close to the end, you had to watch for whether your doctor was about to arrive. The two of us reached the end, but my doctor still had not come. After waiting a very long time, I searched and found that my doctor was seeing patients voluntarily that day and might not appear at all. I said, “No, you should go,” and you left. I stayed behind packing for a very long time and discovered many things I had forgotten to take the last time I came. I frantically stuffed them into my bag for ages. After going outside, the two of us kept walking and walking. It was almost evening when we suddenly saw a stretch of sea with a Van Gogh art exhibition—a Starry Night exhibition—above it, and it was especially beautiful. I said we should go look at that coastline, so we headed that way. Because the coast was far away, we took the wrong route and ended up on an island in the middle of the sea, separated from the coast we wanted by just a little bit of water. We needed to cross. We happened upon an attraction that said we could walk across through the air. It was like a high-altitude boardwalk, extremely long and extending all the way to the coastline. To cross, you had to hold the things on both sides and step on wooden boards underneath. Each board sank a little when stepped on, and there was open height below, so it was dangerous. You walked faster, while I followed behind. I was terrified. In the middle, when I pulled on one of the ropes, it snapped and I almost fell. At last I stumbled across with great difficulty. After we crossed, there was a shop right there. Then the sequence repeated: we had to cross from above, holding both sides and stepping on wooden boards that sank a little, with a dangerous drop below. You moved faster and I followed behind. I felt terrified; I pulled a rope, snapped it, and nearly fell. Finally I stumbled across with great difficulty. There was a shop we could enter, like the gift shop at the end of an amusement-park roller coaster. It sold all kinds of Starry Night-themed skincare products and electronics. We looked around for a very long time. That was the second-to-last dream. I tried to remember the second, third, and fourth dreams before it. In another dream, I did not go to the hospital this morning because I could not get a taxi. In the dream I was supposed to go to the hospital at night rather than in the morning, but I was trying to book a ride toward Chang’an Joy City for some reason and could not get one no matter what I did. It was already after 10:30, and I seemed to have an appointment at 11:00 at night. I simply could not get there, so I never went.
